This 1927 Spanish Eclectic building was the first firehouse of Los Gatos. Today the Art Museum of Los Gatos displays exhibits of local Bay Area artists that rotate once or twice every two months.

History and Nature Museum of Los Gatos (0.5 mi)

The town’s history museum is located in the 1880 Forbes Annex. The original 1854 mill, now gone except for one wall, was the first commercial building in Los Gatos. Los Gatos’ local history museum displays rotating exhibits and maintains a permanent collection depicting the history of the Los Gatos area’s pioneer days.

The History Museum is a free attraction that is open Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 4pm.

Originally built in 1915 as a silent movie house, the current design and architecture of the Los Gatos Theatre was adopted after a 1929 fire. Today, only the arched windows on the second story of the facade remain from the original design. The structure now stands as Santa Clara County’s oldest regularly operating movie theatre.

Ford’s Opera House (0.2 mi)

Stationmaster Eugene Ford built his 500-seat opera house on the ashes of the 1901 fire. In 1916, the structure became Crider’s Department Store. Today the Opera House has transformed yet again and has become the Opera House Shops and Banquet Facilities. Personal tours of this historical facility are available Tuesday through Sunday, 11:00am- 5:00pm by appointment.

During the summer months, the lawn outside of the Civic Center is transformed into a concert venue filled with appreciative music fans and strollers enjoying a walk after a twilight meal. The music at Los Gatos Civic Center includes everything from salsa to reggae, from opera to rock.
